If you know me in person, you probably have heard me wax poetic about my love for avocado. If not, I sincerely apologize. It’s got to be one of my absolute favorite foods. It’s creamy texture adds versatility to just about any dish. Use it in place of dressing on a salad, slice some on top of your morning omelette, or throw it in your food processor with some added goodies and make a spread like this!
When I read about the California Avocado 4th of July Blast from Cookin’ Canuck and Dine & Dish, I knew I had to take this opportunity to express my love for avocado. I was lucky enough to have made this spread a few weeks ago and was so happy to find the perfect opportunity to share it with you.
This avocado lime spread is the perfect to addition to your July 4th barbeque. Spread it on toasted burger buns in place of mayo or use it as a guacamole-esque chip dip. No matter how you use it, you really can’t go wrong! Join Dine & Dish and Cookin’ Canuck for the California Avocado 4th of July Blast, sponsored by the California Avocado Commission.
To get started, gather up your ingredients (there’s something missing, per usual):
And since I’m terrible at taking photos of the cooking process, you throw all of them into the food processor or blender (properly peeling, pitting, and juicing all ingredients beforehand) and you’ve got yourself some spread!
| Avocado Lime Spread |
- 1 1/2 California avocados, pitted and peeled
- juice of 1 lime (about 1 tbsp + 1 tsp lime juice)
- 2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
- 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
- salt and pepper, to taste
- Add all ingredients to food processor or blender and blend until spread/dip reaches desired consistency.
Recipe can be easily doubled or tripled. Feel free to run for less time in the food processor to have more of a chunky, guacamole-esque dip.
I tend to keep these kinds of things pretty simple, but feel free to add any other spices to cater to your taste!
Add some Sriracha for a little kick and you’ve got yourself a fantastic spread, dip, or salad topping!

Does this spread brown over time? Or does it keep well?
Mine kept pretty well but it also didn’t last longer than 3-4 days for me. I’d imagine it could last up to a week because of all the lime juice!
